Design: Undertake field assessments, initiate appropriate field investigation work, analyse field investigation data, and make design conclusions based on that information;
Formulate cost effective pavement designs for new construction, highway rehabilitation projects, highway maintenance projects, and experimental work, as well as providing recommendations for the treatment of areas of isolated pavement distress, frost heaving, erosion problems, and minor slope stability problems;
Infrastructure Management: Manage and monitor the highway infrastructure through the implementation of frost heave studies, pavement distress evaluation, and pavement condition surveys;
Consultation: Provide technical expertise in areas pertaining to the geotechnical field to the Ministry of Transportation's Construction, Planning and Design, and Structural Sections, to MTO District staff, and to consultants.
Consultant Assignments: Procure consultant services and monitor consultant operations for geotechnical soils investigation, and pavement designs and road infrastructure management work; Advise/confer with consultants on issues related to soils, and pavement design; Review consultant deliverables to ensure the final products comply with standards, and that designs are complete, cost effective, and can be practically constructed.
