The firm's experience is directly related to the investigation and analysis of both natural and manmade ground conditions (both soil and rock) and the groundwater conditions that exist within it. The results of these studies are used in preparation of geotechnical, geo-environmental, design and construction reports for various engineering projects. The services offered range from preliminary site assessment for land acquisition (ESA I, etc.) to comprehensive investigations providing complete design, construction data and performance inspection of the completed works.

Since the early 1980's, environmental liabilities and their effect upon any person involved in real property or industrial applications have come to the forefront. Responsible companies and individuals are becoming greatly concerned about environmental due diligence. As such, MERLEX ENGINEERING LTD. continually keeps abreast of the seemingless maze of government compliance standards and legislation.

As a compliment to the professional activities undertaken by the firm, MERLEX has established a geo-drilling division to allow greater overall cost control and flexibility in scheduling. This becomes important considering the substantial distance between and isolation of sites in Northern Ontario where the majority of the firm's work is carried out.

MERLEX ENGINEERING LTD. is a registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA ), and the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC).

Primarily, as a professional engineering group, it is our aim to place our client's interest foremost in fulfilling our commissions and ensure public safety.

MERLEX stresses an integrated engineering approach to problem solving using all available resources of modern technology. As such, we have established a comprehensive CCIL Certified aggregate and soil testing laboratory and a CSA Certified concrete testing laboratory at our North Bay office. On site quality control of deep foundation installation, site decommissioning, concrete quality, engineered fill placement, etc., is carried out with trained technical staff and state of the art equipment. If project size warrants, a mobile field laboratory can be set up on site. To maintain full technical and budget control over the field investigation stage, we have established in-house a geo-drilling division. We presently operate Mobil B-24, Sterling and CME 45 drilling rigs, either truck or muskeg mounted, fully equipped for environmental and geotechnical sampling plus monitoring equipment installation. Only state of the art technology is used at Merlex, either in the office or in the field. Data is compiled in the field through the use of either a Palmtop or Laptop Computer and then transferred to the office desk top computers for analysis.

Any or all of the company's services may be employed on a typical project from conception to performance of the final structure.
